Kayak Ecotour: Bird Island and St. Thomas' Mangrove Lagoon
Overview
Enjoy spectacular sunset kayaking to Bird Island and a guided tour of St Thomas' Mangrove Lagoon Wildlife Sanctuary & Marine Reserve with one of our experienced guides.
Experience scenic sunset views and watch birds and marine life up-close while touring the calm waters of the protected and shallow mangrove waterways. Paddling over seagrass beds with our naturalist guides, you will see and learn about birds, marine animals and other species which live below and above the water’s surface. You will learn about the diversity of birds that inhabit the Virgin Islands, including summer, winter, and year-round residents and their migration patterns. This tour is for those who love to watch and ID birds as well as those with a curiosity for what makes the Mangrove Lagoon Wildlife Sanctuary & Marine Reserve such a unique ecosystem.
No previous kayaking experience is necessary, so this tour is perfect for beginners or seasoned veterans alike. After a brief orientation, you will load into your sit-on-top kayak, which accommodates two people and is easy to paddle. You will paddle through mangrove passageways toward Bird Island. There, you will see the egrets and pelicans that are nesting in the trees. You will paddle around the island and then continue around Bovoni Cay until you return to the marina. Look overhead to see the birds flying to their evening roost and take in all the splendors of a beautiful Caribbean sunset.
